L.A.N.D. Old rock in new suite: interview with Lasse Gidbo.

I have followed your musical endeavours through Facebook, from local cover band gigs to James Holkworth. Compared to Holkworth, Which band is more serious than the other?

James Holkworth is both a project and a band, we did play Sweden rock festival in 2019! L.A.N.D is more of a studio project today, but in the future we might play live. As a band L.A.N.D are 3 buddies in the age of 50 to 55 who were sitting around in a garage and made music through the years. Dick Griberg on keyboard write a lot of the music and we rehearse once a week. Anders, the drummer and I ,have played on and off through the years, but the other two members are new acquaintances to me. They had a few songs that they wanted me to listen to, and I wrote some lyrics and melodies to a few of them who became our debut EP “Echoes from the past”. Right now, I am working on new material that we hope to have released before the new year (might be out as you read this). I have done so many things in music along the years- everything from punk rock to symphony orchestra, and this is thanks to the Municipal school we had back in the days.

The other members saw me on YouTube when I were in a rock musical back in 2009 called “The Royal Ghost” where I sang songs in the same vein as their songs.  A blessed mixture of melodic hard rock, classic metal and Death metal. The musical was written by Teddy Jonasson who sadly passed away in cancer 2014. We did manage to record an album and were almost done with the second, let´s see if it sees the light of day someday. This kind of music L.A.N.D. play is out of my comfort zone but a fun challenge, we make songs that celebrates the 80´s and the music we grew up with.  The soundscape should be like stepping back to that era.

The Stargazed Magazine writer namedrops Demon as an influence which Lasse agrees on and he goes on to praise the bands gig on Rocknytt Cruise  in March of this year one of the best shows he has seen the band play.

Is it supposed to be dots between the letter or is is LAND?

It’s as simple as the initials of the members first names, no dot after the D though. We´ve had surprisingly many streams on Spotify since we´re a very small band, it’s a lot of fun of course, we have managed to get into a lot of playlists that makes a difference. We seem to have fans all over the world…well, streams anyway. Comparing again to James Holkworth Conspiracy who is more radio rock standing on 80s soil as L.A.N.D is more of Magnum/April Wine, Saga, Axe, Phenomena, and such. More melodic rock/AOR

Try convincing someone who doesn´t own any AOR/ melodic rock album why L.A.N.D is the band to listen to.
If you grew up in the 80s and listened to hard rock back then, take a listen for nostalgic reason.” Old rock in new suite”.

Who is the main lyricist in the band?

I am the sole writer, maybe not very serious and deep meaning lyrics all the time but I have a great flow when writing lyrics.” Echoes from the past” had a working title by the name of” Phenomena” so then I went along with a feeling of a Phenomena song. Every song is really 1987-ish.  For the song ”1987” for example I thought of things that happened that year. There is a video for the song. No way near a masterpiece but it’s a video!” Cold war” – well you kind of know instantly what that is about- The cold war in the life of a secret spy. I always try to have some kind of story so if you like listening to the lyrics you get a clear picture of what the songs are about. ”Down at the arcade ”is not only the Stargazed writers favourite track but obviously about life in the arcades back in the days and the memories around those gaming halls.
One thing the writer noted were the similarity to other more known songs but it was not Lasses thought from the beginning of course but it’s very smart streaming wise to have songs with the same name as more well known songs.
We have a new song named “New World” might be a continuation of ”Echoes from the past” but it will not be about the world today, but who knows the 80s might be ”the new world”?
