Orianthi – Live From Hollywood

5/10

Please forgive me, but I thought Orianthi was an instrumental artist.
And this is more of a harder version of country rock. “This isn’t your type of music is it” was one reaction from a friend of mine when I sent her a link of the song “Heaven in This Hell”. Third time around and I find it more than acceptable. And discovering that she’s been touring with Michael Jackson, Carlos Santana, Carrie Underwood, Alice Cooper surprises me. But she is here surrounded by studio musicians who has been around the block for quite some time and have quite a CV, and they know how to handle their respective instruments.

I did listen to my choice of streaming service before hitting “Play” on this promo. Surprised, as I said, to what I heard. “Contagious” got some “hey I recognize this melody, but I cannot put my finger on it though.”Heaven In this Hell” became a favourite early on and with this live version, nothing changes in that feeling. “Think Like a Man” is a runner up for stand out track. Songs like “You Don´t Wanna Know” and “What´s It Gonna Be” kick the mellow feeling down hard, makes the album “wake up a bit” and feels like the elephant in the room here. All in all, a very mellow record with bits and pieces to remember, it kind of glimmers but nothing that carry the record on. A record to have on in the background. ”Blues Won´t Leave Me Alone” should have been the final song though and maybe had “How Do You Sleep” a bit earlier in the set.

This might sell a lot of records with fans of country rock and I think there is a reason she’s only have made ONE gig in Europe, a bit too much American rock radio music for European market to really take her in.
