Ace Frehley – Spaceman
5/10
Am I disappointed? No not really. Am I surprised? Not at all. It’s 2018 and Ace Frehley is back with a new album that contains nine songs new written songs and every single Kiss fan are going bananas. I’m also a huge Kiss fan but this is not really much to write home about, and I will not try to like it because it’s the original guitar player from Kiss. I believe that many Kiss fans out there automatically says that this is a great record, this is a super record, this is the best record Ace Frehley ever made and so on. Is it so? Definitely not.
To be honest this is a good record but not even close to fantastic. There isn’t any song on this record that makes me go “Wow this is fucking great”, instead I wonder if the inspiration of Ace Frehley has gone down the drain, because I know he can do much better than this. If this is the last album from Ace Frehley he don’t go out with a bang but I also know that Ace has surprised me before and had great comebacks after a weak release.
“Without You I’m Nothing”, “Bronx Boy” and “I Wanna Go Back” has potential to grow along the way. Ace Frehley also continues to end his albums with an instrumental song. This time it’s called “Quantum Flux”and if you take away the brilliant “Fractured Mirror” from the first solo album back in 1978 I’m getting kind of bored listen to it, and that’s the same feeling I’ve got when I’m listening to the old instrumental songs as well. To sum it up I’m not disappointed and I’m not surprised. But I hope that this isn’t the last we hear from Ace Frehley, it wouldn’t be fair.
