Atrocity – Okkult II
According to wikipedia Atrocity is a German Heavy Metal band from Ludwigsburg. Massacre Records are the bands current label and they say that Atrocity play Death Metal. In my very humble point of view I say that Atrocity is somewhere between Heavy Metal and Death Metal. The new album “Okkult II” isn’t the best album this year, it’s hard to compete with Ghost and Judas Priest, but it’s definitely not the worst album either. I believe that this is a band who won’t compromise much with their music and it’s straight forward metal for about 45 minutes.
This is the ninth album since the debut “Hallucinations” back in 1990, and if we look back in time it’s five years ago they released the latest album “Okkult”. When I was attending the Sweden Rock Festival last month there was a band called Pestilence and my job was to do a review of their concert. There and then I promised myself to begin to really listen to that kind of music so believe me when I say that I’m a novice around this type of hardrock and Heavy Metal. I really think this is good for me as well. They say that you can’t make an old dog sit but I will try.
If we return to the new Atrocity-album I think the energy is brilliant, “Gates To Oblivion” and “Infernal Sabbath” proves that, and I’ve always been a huge fan of the energy these bands are spreading. “Masters Of Darkness” opens up the album and it appeal to me. I think this is good music although I’m not into the genre of Death Metal yet. But believe me when I say that my ambition is to enter that area as well. There are some great songs on this album and the absolute favorite is “Bloodshed & Triumph” which stands out. My first experience with Atrocity teases my appetite for more.
