Aviana – Epicenter

8/10

In 2017 this progressive metalcore band from Gothenburg released their album debut ”Polarize”, and for me that was simply #instantcrush first time I heard them.
Now they are back with their sophomore 12 track album, together with a new singer, and a fresher but much heavier, more brutally intense and djent-scented sound. And this, is just so much better.

The combination, or rather the amazing teamwork between the drums and guitars, is just a complete knock-out, like getting hit by a bulldozer all the way. And on top of that we have the brilliant ass-kicking voice of Joel Holmqvist, guiding us through the jungle of blasting beats and flowing atmospheres, giving and delivering nothing short of great variation and awesomeness.

The album also has a lot of variety in the material, which gives that extra touch of freshness and inspiration – but the uncomprimising and interesting  Aviana vibe is always present, and always excellent. There is darkness and anger, but it’s all still so extremely uplifting and energetic that it just leaves a huge smile in my heart.

And when the hardest part of reviewing an album is trying to pick out the tracks that really stand out and not really wanting to stop listening, that is when you know it’s pure fucking special.
