Axel Rudi Pell – Sign of the times

6/10

The German guitarwizz continue on a regular basis releasing albums that we all know how it will sound like. Just like for example AC/DC. Thank god Johnny Gioeli has such powerhouse vocal chord.

If we put the aspect of that it all sound the same, this is not so bad as it might seen in the first part of this review. Powerful hard rock with great riffs and great choruses. In my world Axel would easily be mentioned in the same meaning as the big guitar heroes. And for example. He still releases records that people buy and live, he doesn’t hide his band…

The bad thing about “carbon copied “music is that it can be hard to find something that sticks out of the ordinary. Great musicianship doest´t mean great songs obviously. But the title track could be something to remember afterwards. And from then on it´s a quite enjoyable record. Some say its his best work for ages. Who am I to judge? I haven´t really followed him so I can decide that. But when they focus on melody rather than playing quick as hell I enjoy it more. So from now on this could be something better than I imagined at first. One thing I have found out after reviewing so many records is how come so many albums being built up like this: Slowly getting to the best part after a few songs and stay there for a period of 3-4 songs and then fade out

“Wings of the storm” must be one of the heavier songs Axel ever put out on a record? And “Waiting for your call” sounds like a cover song re-made to suit Axel Rudi Pell.
Let us then forget the three first songs and just see the record as seven songs long. Then we got a great album. Now it´s just a good record.
