Black Ink River – Headstrong

7/10

“THE WITCH AND THE WOLF”
Sets the record off and from here on we are off into the ocean of 1970´s something era. The difference is that i think Daniel, the singer has more in common with Tom Keifer(Cinderella) and Conny Bloom(Electric Boys) than Plant and co.

“MY CHURCH”
Hard rockin´ tune that have a chorus that will get stuck in your head

“IN THE END”
Sounds that it’s a song that could have been from a Graveyard session that did´t make it to an album of theirs.

“THE VULTURES AMONG US”
Slower, groovier than the previous songs. Yet a song that get stuck in your head. And an instant favourite

“WE WORSHIP THE DARKNESS”
A ballad with a cool intro. A choir behind Daniels whiskeydrenched vocals. I was awaiting a keyed fiddle actually, but it might appear on the next record?.

“HEADSTRONG”
As I am listening to the vinyl, it´s the first track on side B. And it´s excatly where it should be when they play live. In the middle of the set. A song that would get the audience dancing and singing along even if they haven´t heard it before. Featuring Jonas Stålhammar known from At The Gates and Bombs of Hades on guitar

“HEARTBREAKER”
A song that just go by. An “inbetween” track. Nothing more nothing less

“CITY OF BROKEN GLAS”
If they were a bit off on “Heartbreaker”, all that is forgotten with this rockin track. They could´ve made it even heavier

“BREATHE”
The Final track. A full circle for the record. Now the final stretch lays ahead and the band is ready to let us reflect on what we heard.
…and for those who hear the record digitally and on cd you have:

“USELESS”
And, no it´s not. Nowadays some bands decide to put a bonus track on the vinyl, but here you go the other way, the way it used to be before the Vinyl boom
