Care of Night – Reconnected

5/10

I should begin by admitting that modern AOR rarely gets to me these days. There are so many bands who seems to cast all their albums in the same mold, and it all just ends up… not bad, but quite forgettable. Swedish rockers Care of Night is a band that has been around for a couple of years, but this is the first time I dig into their work, hoping to hear something that breaks the formula.

But it’s there. The cheeky 80’s sound that still feels modern. Radio friendly, and effective. It’s quite good at first… Well performed and catchy. But soon enough I feel the wait for some songs that will shake things up. Maybe a heaveier song, something progressive, or perhaps an instrumental? But it never happens. Reconnected never gets more varied than that the obligatory power ballads carefully spreaded out across the album lenght. When it’s over, I struggle to differ a single song from the mass.

Care of Night is not a bad group, and it feels tough to give them a hard time when there’s so much real trash out there. But I just don’t know what more to say. I could have this album on the background at a party without any problems, but if I really dig in and listen to it, it just doesn’t do much. No songs are really bad, but no one stands out that much either. It just leaves me indifferent. But, if I should end this rant on a brighter note, I’m quite convinced this music works really good live.
