Dan Reed Network – Let´s Hear It For The King

8/10

I do think that an album can be deemed to be released a bit late in time.

In this case I think that is the case music wise. This album could have easily followed “Slam” when it came out. Fantastic album by the way.

With most bands/artists/groups they seem to age or mature. Sound less inspired, have a singer whose voice ages less than gracefully.

I do have to say that in the case of Dan Reed his voice has not aged a day since he belted out “Tiger in a Dress” or “Cruise Together”.

Music is also based around the same soulful, funky rock music. It is catchy, easy, accessible and just pleasant. Good honest rock music.

What you can do to distinguish is to listen to the social/society criticism that is quite apparent on this album. It is always an element, but here we take it a bit further.

Playing with Martin Luther King´s speech “I Have A dream” and making it into “I Have A Nightmare” is both hitting home and quite time accurate. Especially looking at Reed and the Networks home country that more and more looks like a showreel for bad old WWE promos.

“Unfuck My Word” is one of those songs where you think, nice song, I like the guitar, I like the beat. Sounding a bit like modern country music with a funk to it. But you get like a melancholy theme like “sort yourself out dumbass”!

So, the music sounds happy, dissecting the lyrics makes me feel like I want to have a rope and a high rafter around to put me out of my misery.

The Singles “Pretty Karma”, “Starlight” & “Homegrown” all showcase the quality and diversity that Dan Reed and his Network do deliver. Catchy, straightforward stuff like.

All in all, this is an album that delivers good music. I am a bit sorry that it probably won’t get the recognition that it deserves in this time. That is a shame, because more people should take the time and access this.
