Def Leppard – Diamond Star Halos

3/10

Ok…… 61 minutes where most of the minutes are rejects from Absolute power ballads.

You can tell from the positive beginning that this is not going to be a praise for Def Leppard.

I will do what is advised is talks and feedback. I will start with something positive to set an ok tone.

“Kick” & “Fire It Up” reminds you what Def Leppard should be about. The latter reminds me of “Animal” from “Hysteria”. Not at all as good. But it gives me something to hold on to. The first is a song that both T-Rex & Mark Bolan would have loved to play back in the days.

But the rest does not appeal at all. From the moment “This Guitar” starts I wonder if I have switched album or if there is something wrong. Hideous song.

They pick it up a bit with “SOS Emergency” that has a bit of drive and some familiar licks to it.

We continue with almost one greasy, poppy, generic song alternated with some kind of effort to sound a bit more like rock music. “U Rock Mi” Rocks me as much as a sing along Teletubbies session.

“All We Need” I read that Chris Daughtry rejected because it was too soft and was a complete theft from Def Leppard and how they used to sound. Well, it is good that they took responsibility for that themselves.

Diving down the path of trying to mix classic Def Leppard with Country, generic rock. It is Def Leppard trying to sound like Nickelback or Tonic. I would have been completely ok with that if the songs were good. Personally, I do not hold history against artists. They can develop in whatever way they want. But when the songs stink, they stink.

For me, this is an album that does not contribute to anything. Other than time I am not going to get back trying to suffer through 61 minutes a few times trying to get a grip of what I think about it.

I am glad after writing this that this is an album I am not going to listen to again. Ever.
