Equilibrium – Live Sabaton Open Air 2022-08-04
5/10
Do the world need two Amon Amarth. I really think so in this case. Equilibrium is swimming the same pond as Amon Amarth but there are some things that differ the bands (not only that Equilibrium does not sing about Vikings). And they are both heavy and brutal but still catchy. Death metal for the masses so to speak.
Even if the hour is late the crowd are on their toes and seems to enjoy what they see and hear, the band seems like they are on fire too and it might infect the crowd. Musically there are some ingenious melodies tucked into the songs that breaks the “freight train coming” feeling.
An enjoyable hour but a bit one-sided for me for a whole hour. Skilful musicians though.
That may be because I am unaware of the titles of the songs and really hasn’t dug into the band’s discography in advance. It makes the gig a kind of a transport distance.
The area where the stages are set is on asphalt so the idea of a “wall of death” is maybe not what the audience are dying for but a salute to those who were brave enough to join in.
