Exit Eden – Femmes Fatales

7/10

Kayleeeeigh! Being a massive Marillion fan, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Exit Eden’s cover version of that band’s biggest hit. I needn’t have worried. The shout-out of the song title signals a jolly heavy metal version of the song, well worth releasing as a single. Who knows, maybe it could be a hit once again!

Otherwise, “Femmes Fatales” is a very listenable sophomore effort of this all-female metal
supergroup, three on the cover; four in the press information. Numbers notwithstanding, there’s no doubt on the ladies’ competence in the modern metal field. Technically or emotion-wise, wether on original compositions or cover versions, the international lineup excels. It could be argued that the moments of total musical surprise are few, but to a certain extent, this is weighed up by the fact that several languages are sung.
If you’re eagerly awaiting the next Nightwish album, “Femmes Fatales” can be a treat. That band’s ex-bassist/vocalist Marco Hietala performs on the record, and he’s not the only link to the big names. To the contrary, Amanda Sommerville and her friends include Avantasia, Kamelot, Trillium, Serenity and Visions of Atlantis in their collective CV, to name but a few.
