Gojira – Live Stockholm 22/7-2022

10/10

Going to a concert on the hottest day of the year here in Sweden and riding a train without AC made me sweat like a waterfall. But I had something that I had been waiting for a long time ahead of me and that made the journey to Stockholm a bit easier.

At last, the postponed Gojira show were on the agenda. I hooked up with a good friend of mine before and had a bite to eat and a few cold beers before going to Annexet. Both of us had memories of that place being a tin shed with no air condition.
Well, it was hot but not as hot as outside. We skipped Employed to serve and came just as Alien Weaponry took the stage.
A band sounding like they were six people on stage, but it was a trio. And a trio performing much better live than on record in my opinion

The time between A.W. and Gojira seemed like an eternity (approximately 30 – 35 minutes) but it was so worth the wait. A cool thing was that they counted down the last 3 minutes on a giant clock displayed on the scone that hung in front of the stage preshow.
And from then on, they just owned Stockholm. A total technical death metal gourmet meal for 1 hour and 40 minutes.
I loved every single second of it. And there were NO solos! Thanks guys. This might be the next big metal thing. I sincerely hope so!
They are heavy as hell but still melodic. Think Arch Enemy but even heavier and a male vocalist. Joe keeps talking very sparingly between songs and that is another good thing about this show.

Talking about the show. It was an amazing lightshow, the backdrop created almost a hypnotic feeling and rode along the songs great.

Hopefully either Gefle Metal festival or Sweden Rock festival book the band for their festival (why not both) next year and let them play late (headline?) so the whole concept of the performance comes to its right conditions.

Once again thanks guys for an amazing show, and welcome back soon.
