Grave Digger – Fields of Blood

8/10

Through the years, heavy metal legends Grave Digger has more and more allowed their original raw Accept sound of classic debut Heavy Metal Breakdown (1984) emerge into a more power metal oriented area and today, most people more connect the band with the power metal wave of the late 90’s rather than the 80’s stuff. When you listen to Fields of Blood, this is clear as day. This album has a lot of Tunes of War (1996) in it, all the way down to the theme being of Scotlands fight for independence in the middle ages. Of course, standing next to one of the bands absolute classics would make most albums feel small, but Fields of Blood pulls it off really well. How come, you might think? Well, to put it simple, it’s the songs. They are really bloody good!

Fields of Blood is just the album for everyone who has waited for a classic epic power metal album with speed metal riffs and heavy arena refrains. The crushing hit tune Lions of the Sea, the massive Heart of Scotland, the ballad Thousand Tears with guest vocals from Noora Louhimo and the ten minute epic closure Fields of Blood. This album has it all! The only downside is that the album goes down a little during the second half, which is about the only bad thing I can say about it. Apart from that, this is just the album I had hoped for.

So if you’re looking for a solid metal album of 2020, look no further. Grave Digger has exactly what you crave for! Fields of Blood simply just a great piece of classic german metal. Look it up as soon as possible!
