Grave Digger – The Living Dead

6/10

It´s quite hard to review a record by a band who´s been around since I started listening to metal, but I never really listened very much to Grave Digger (own the “Witch Hunter” record, so there you have my refenence to the band before this) but they have been there on festival posters and news sites. I have never really taken in what they´ve released.
Now, when I got the opportunity to do a review of their new album I must say that I have missed out on some great metal. Here´s some true pump your fist in the air metal, singalong songs you will get crazy for not getting a chance to get it out of your head, and songs that can boost your ego and energy

If you haven´t heard of the band before, just imagine Blind Guardian with a different singer and completely without the orchestral arrangements.
Some say the band has typical cheesy power metal lyrics, but so what; “When Death Passes By” is one song easily remembered. “Shadow of the Warrior” could have been done by HammerFall or Blind Guardian easily. “The Power of Metal” is probably one future live favorite, now “Hymn of the Damned” could be renamed “Hymn for the Priest” as the drums have a lot from the “Painkiller – era”.  “What War Left Behind” feels more mature than the rest of the album.

A track named “Insane Pain” brings images of hardcore or thrash metal bands but here, just another Grave Digger track. Followed by “Fist In Your Face” ,a song that could have ended up on later days Accept albums.
Serious metal bands sometimes have tendencies to make funny songs that are not at all what they are about in any way. On “The Living Dead” Grave Digger brings you “Zombie Dance”, folk metal might be big in Germany but let it please stay there
