Graveyard – 6

9/10

In 2021 I finally got to be at the same venue as Graveyard. I have managed to not do that before, even though I have followed the bands music since their self-titled debut from 2007. It was a lovely consert.

I particularly like their mix of blues, psychedelic rock, and folk music. Their rock is classic, but modern, a description that I am usually drawn to.

They have the riffs and weight of bands like Led Zeppelin and also the quirk and spaced-out approach as say, the Doors. That backed up with being a musically gifted group of people that are able to write and arrange songs in a good way bodes for a good album.

On this album aptly titled 6 Graveyard continue to hone their craft in the same manner as they all through their career. You recognize the sound, the style and quality. I do have to say that I feel that they are drifting more towards the Doors on this album. That is by no means a bad thing.  “Breathe In Breathe Out” sounds a lot like The Doors “Light My Fire”, especially the long solo part in the middle of the song. “I Follow You” is to me the perfect transmission song between the harder classic 70´s rock and it´s psychedelic sibling and “Bright Lights” (again by the Doors) does full mushroom.

“Twice” is at the other spectrum a full-blown rock song leaning towards Free. “I Follow You” follows that track in style. And on the slower more bluesy side there is the song “No Way Out”. Even though slow it still has both weight and groove.

What I do find great with this album is the mix of songs and also the mix in the songs. It is interesting and entertaining to the mind and ears for the whole duration.

I really don´t have any complaints about the album. It is probably going to be on my top 5 for the year, but it does not reach the absolute high, but close enough for a grade of 9 in my book. Not a 6 but upside down in this case is better.
