Johnny Gioeli – One Voice
6/10
What am I hearing? A new album with Jon Bon Jovi? When I heard this for the first time back in august I was absolutely sure that I was listening to Jon Bon Jovi. The songs, the sound but most of all the voice was the biggest part in my thinking. When I’ve listen to Johnny Gioeli over the years in Hardline or Axel Rudi Pell there have been a much more powerful voice than this…….soft vocals. Is it bad? No not at all but it’s not the kind of Johnny Gioeli I’m used to listen to. The album starts of with the songs “Drive” and “It” which working real fine in 2018. “Running” and “Price We Pay” is also really good rock songs but my favourite turns up at the last song, “Oh Fathers” is one of Johnny Gioelis finest moments if you ask me and as a closer it’s absolutely great.
That’s for the positive part of the album. “One Voice” is also an album that got so called fillers and when it comes to the title track, “Deeper” and “Out Of Here” I’m back thinking of Jon Bon Jovi and this time it’s in a negative way because Johnny Gioeli should sound like Johnny Gioeli, not Jon Bon Jovi. I’m a fan of Bon Jovi as well but when one of the greatest voices in the genre become a copycat of Jon Bon Jovi it’s no longer funny.
But of course there’s nothing I can do about this fact besides write down my opinion and if you’re a fan already of Johnny Gioeli for his work in Hardline or Axel Rudi Pell you should definitely check this out as well. Perhaps you don’t agree with me at all and that’s perfectly ok. Music is a great thing and where would we be if we all would be loving only one type of music.
