Kandia – Quaternary

6/10

Taking on 2022 as a writer and diving into unknown territory completely. Never ever heard of the band before so, once again a completely blank page. Always exciting and interesting

Portugal and metal has before this only been the same as Moonspell for me but if you think this band has taken their inspiration from them you are dead wrong. Bands dropped in the promo material are
A
Perfect Circle, Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, Metallica and Pantera

Now I cant hear one note similar to the two latter bands. More in the area of Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation.

There is something familiar with a song like Fight Or Flight” but I cant put my finger on it,feels like I have heard parts of the song elsewhere.
And first time hearing “Until The End” they seem to have met up with New Years day for some jamming. Its a favourite track on the album anyway. Not the fastest song on the album but the whole package of the song speaks to me.

But hey “PBP” is the odd man out here. Sounds very out of place with the growl part in this particular song.

A decent album with some minor mishaps in ”PBP” andMurderer”(the song seems to go faster than what the singer are prepared for and is it a saxophone I hear?). Stuck in between are “Deathwish” a very good song. And thankfully with ”A new dawn” they are back at it in a positive note.
If ”Holocene” wasn’t a kind of a ballad and made more heavy and doomier then you would have the comparison to Moonspell…

At the end of the day ”Turn off the tide” was the most memorable minutes on this record after a tight nose to nose finish with ”Deathwish”
