Lamb Of God – Omens

8/10

I don´t give a god damn!!!! That is the opening phrase of the song “Ditch”. And it also sums up how many f**k´s Lamb of God seems to give. This should give you a hint regarding what kind of album this is. Forever angry, groovy, heavy aggressive and brutal is what this band is all about.

Omens is the ninth album under the name Lamb of God (11th if you include the 2 albums released under the name Burn the Priest). Randy Blythe leads the charged sporting a very, very angry voice indeed. You can almost touch the anger in it.

Randy´s voice is accompanied by razor sharp riffs, energetic drums and a wholesome groove embedded in every song on this album.

First single Nevermore starts of the album a bit slow but catches pace quickly. Maybe a bit more catchy and broader than you are used to, but you can still hear it is a Lamb of God tune.

Vanishing picks up the tempo for all you mosh pit lovers. When third song To the Grave kicks in, I think; whatever tempo of the song is, the groove stays the same. Not the same, but it has the same place in every song. The groove is an important factor regarding this band. Always has been and should always be. It is sometimes too prominent you would be excused if you made references to old Motown soul. Hard to explain, but your body wants to sway the same way it wants to when you have Motown present.

Quality level of the album is solid. Nothing to really complain about here. And recorded as live all in the same room probably contributes to the feeling the music gives. I did not know that when first listening to it but felt something in the music that felt more together somehow.

My conclusion is that the recording as live can sometimes lift the experience for the listener because of the energy delivered by the musicians in that setting. Thankful that in this case that energy shines through.
