Rock Goddess – This Time
6/10
The long awaited comeback album from cult band Rock Goddess is finally here! Myself, I haven’t heard much more of the band than their eponymous debut from 1983, but seeing how their eponymous debut from 1983 is a really good piece of classic heavy metal, I welcome this comeback with open arms.
“This Time” is a short and effective album with no frills. 35 minutes of nine tough rock songs with titles such as “Are You Ready?”. I like that! But of course, there are thousands of straightforward heavy metal albums like this released every year, so for “This Time” to stick out of the crowd, the songs really have to deliver something extra. And do they? Well, not really. That is not to say they aren’t any good. “This Time” is a good album! I think the biggest problem is the sound, rather than the songs. It feels quite cheap and undynamic. With some more professional production, I think these songs could reach much higher. As it is now, I’m afraid the album will get lost in the crowd and disappear quite quickly, which of course is the case for a lot of good albums out there.
But if you were to give “This Time” a few spins, I reckon you won’t be disappointed. This is a good album which does what it should all the way. So who cares if it’s not a huge hit? Turn up the volume and rock along so that you can sing along with the new stuff the next time you get a chance to see Rock Goddess on swedish soil!
