Roulette – Live at Sabaton Open Air 2022-08-06

9/10

Roulette is probably the oldest band here. Hailing back to 1985 even!! Also a band that is a bit of fresh air between all the powermetal & related music we have been fed with so far (for the most part).

Some well played AOR for us all played by a bunch of mature men.

“Never Enough” starts us of and it embodies what a good AOR song is for me. It is soft, it has melody, good tempo and a smashing solo to get you going. Thomas Lundgren sings like his life depends on it.

“Another Night” follows and I look around and see no people that looks like they listen to much AOR at all. Myself included. I do not think many would admit it, but I think all of us like a little dose of this more happy music to balance a bit.

The music is Journey/Chicago orientated, and what is not to like about that? That the guys all have brought their best action behaviour with them from Sundsvall does not make this start any worse.

“Soldiers Of Love” sends out a pumping bass combined with a bit harder tempo and a nice riff.

The gig moves on through ballads, new songs and the band still keep their spirit up. And they get good help from the audience in front of them. It is not huge, but they do their best in showing their new AOR heroes that they aim to support them all through this afternoon in the sun. Now that the left stage has got a clearer and better sound as well Roulette does own the stage in an experienced and effortless manner.

So far this is the concert I have enjoyed the most. The band are playing their socks of and command the stage all the way. A really nice surprise and something I will take with me forward and continue to listen to. Roulette, you might even get me to buy a t-shirt!
