Sabaton review – Sabaton Open Air 2018

7/10

As always at this time of the year Sabaton heading home to their home town of Falun to deliver something extra. This year it’s a great show as always with bombs, confetti and a lot, and I mean a lot, of fire. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen Sabaton live but it ‘s about ten times. And in my opinion they are no longer that exciting as they were five-six years ago. And get me right on this one, the show is very good and they made a pompous show this year as usual. What I mean is that I want to be surprised for real, playing the album “Coat Of Arms” in it’s entirety would be a real surprise for me and a great surprise as well because I’m extremely fond of that album. This time we got a few songs from “The Art Of War” that haven’t been played in a while and to be honest I would have skipped both “Cliffs Of Gallipoli” as well as “The Price Of A Mile” for songs like “Uprising” and “Panzer Battalion”.

Sabaton released the album “The Last Stand” two years ago and from that we got six songs where “Shiroyama” is an abolute killer live along with “Winged Hussars” and “Blood Of Bannockburn”. Next year though I would be extremely greatful if the quintet skip “Sparta” and let “Rorke’s Drift” sound over the ski stadium that we call Lugnet. Maybe I have reviewed Sabaton too many times which make me a man with extremely critical eyes. Of course there was some good songs as well and I have to admit that I got goose-bumps every single time I hear “En Livstid I Krig” at the Sabaton Open Air. The song itself is a real beauty and to hear thousands of people sing it in Sabatons home town is a fantastic experience. I’m very pleased to hear the title track from the album “Coat Of Arms” and the closure including “Primo Victoria” and “To Hell And Back” is probably among the best you can get in the world of heavy metal these days.

Next year I will stand there once again and I hope they will surprise me in a really positive way. I have a wet dream and that is that Sabaton will play “The Final Solution”. I don’t give you any promises that I’m going to run naked around the festival area because if I do they will play the song. But I hope and I thank Sabaton and all of the amazing crew for a great festival once again.
