Sascha Paeth´s Masters Of Ceremony – Signs of Wings
Now this is a record that gets me going totally. Some people can call this Power metal but I am not so sure. Just Heavy metal, clean and simple. From the very start of first track “The Time Has Come” to the last note this is a record that will have it´s say when I have to deal with end of the year list struggles.
Vocalist Adrienne Cowan is a new great discovery for me whom I am so impressed by. The only power metal vibe is maybe the powerhouse drumming from Felix Bohnke. It´s a record that feels that it will be without those “passing through” songs too. On the second song “Die Just A Bit” they show off their individual skills without flipping over into total equilibrism.
And just to get it out of the review: Yes it´s a female fronted project/band. So the comparisons to bands like that are of course hard to ignore. But I think it has been too much focus on this everytime a girl is fronting a metal band. It´s not that very shocking in 2019 is it? The typical similiarities is here: Sharon den Adel and Tarja.
The band walk along paths of singalong anthems and Within Temptation-like songs to no prisoners taken heavy metal. “Radar” would for example be my choice for the next video from the album.
Frontiers Records is quite well known for all their different projects so my small scepticism was just that, Would it be a weak watered out project just because the label tell you to do it?
But who would have thought that this is just the injection to the heavy metal world we all need. I do try to find some little things that maybe makes me think twice about the grade for this review but I am just so impressed. This project doesn´t even have egos I think. It says Sascha Paeth on the cover but he is just a member of the band. Bass duties is taken care of Avantasia famed bassist André Neygenfind
We do have to talk about the ballads too. Imagine Tarjas clearest vocal preformances.
Well Adrienne is not far from her I´d say. It sends chills throughout my entire body when she gets to sing those ballads.
When we all had catched our breaths they are at full force again. I try to rephrase and add a word to what this is: Modern heavy metal as it should be played from now on. I might have been deaf before but it was a long time since I heard a record so perfectly played under this category.
Laying on the floor grasping for some kind of “there must be something bad about this record” feeling I give up totally. If you are into metal as described above, it is a must to buy this one.
Thank you Sascha for surprising me.
