Scorpions – Rock Believer

7/10

2022 and the Scorpions release a new album. 1972 came their first studio album, Lonesome Crow, so it is 50 years since they made their record debut. The new album “Rock believer” is the first with new drummer Mickey Dee who replaced John Kottak and it is a big step forward. The latest albums have not been what we expected. It feels like they have found their way back to the joy of music again. Klaus Meine sings as only he can and it sounds as good now as it did 50 years ago, if not better.

Opening with ”Gas in the tank” which is a rocking opener you’ll feel rather comforted with familliar riff and clasick sounding lyrics only Klaus Meine can write. ”Roots in my boots” and ”Knock ’em dead” keeps the album rocking before the title track ”Rock believer” seals the deal with warm melodic metal.

”Shining of your soul” show us that the guys can play some reggae too. Nice touch. ”Seventh sun” and ”Hot and cold” keeps the album going and is some high quality songs.

”When I lay my bones to rest” is an uptempo straight rock n roll classic Scorpions song. ”Peacemaker” is the first single and video from the album and I can see why they picked this one. Great oldschool Scorpions.

The epic Scorpions ballad ”When you know (where you come from)” has the potential to be a classic Scorpions ballad in the future. It sounds so 80s/90s but I love it.

If we sum it up this album is an album that Scorpions needed right now. They show us that they still can write and play this kind of music in 2022. Great job boys!
