Skillet – Victorious
I like surprises. Back in 2014 Slipknot released the album “5:The Gray Chapter” and I thought it was awesome. I even put it on top when I was summing 2014 up. And now you wonder what the hell is he talking about, surprises my friends, that’s what I’m talking about. At that time I wasn’t a really big fan of Slipknot but that album knocked me out completely and now I love the band. I don’t know if it will be the same development when it comes to Skillet. It’s very much the same though, they haven’t give me anything up til now and all of a sudden they deliever.
“Victorious” is the new album from this band which was formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1996. And it’s a good one. It starts with “Legendary” and immediately the sound is getting to me, a little odd because this is not my kind of music at all. There is something that grabs me though and the biggest part is that the songs are really good of most of the album. I can compare Skillet to a band from Sweden named Sabaton. The music is there but to be honest it’s not that good that it makes me go nuts. The formula is the choruses and I think Sabaton have it as well as Skillet. The title track “Victorious” for example is brilliant and when I sum up 2019 it will definitely be there listed along with Avantasias “Moonglow” and Pulgasaris “Alive Again” and probably some more songs when I make a chart over the best songs this year.
“Victorious” is an album that never dips but “Anchor” is quite a boring moment. This weighs up in songs like “You Ain’t Ready”, “Rise Up”, “Never Going Back” and “Back To Life” so it’s not disturbing at all as a whole. Skillet is the biggest surprise so far in 2019 and it will be interesting to follow this band in the future.
