Smash Into Pieces – Evolver

-2/10

Smash Into Pieces mix “raw rock sound with electro twangs”, according to the press release. With their new album “Evolver”, Dino Medanhodzic & Co have taken their idea “to a new phase”, it continues. The question is, to what level?  Because this doesn’t sound new to me. At all.

The electro twangs just feels dated back to ’82 and the “raw rock sound” …well…just isn’t a raw rock sound. It is not EMD, it doesn’t wanna make me dance…or play air guitar. I just want to stop it. Half of the tracks share more or less the same melody, 2/3 of the songs seems to have the same chords. A few happy saxophone samples and a poor rapping doesn’t help. On the contrary.

Sure. They have a million streams and make hundreds of interviews. We all have different turn-ons. However, the intriguing part is that they will start off with a tour together with their “label buddies” Hardcore Superstar. What’s happening here? Is Benjamin Ingrosso touring with Backyard Babies as well? I gotta see that.
