The Darkness review – Sabaton Open Air 2018

7/10

The Darkness at Sabaton Open Air, can it work? The answer is yes and after a hour and a half in the claws of Justin Hawkins you’re leaving with a smile on your face. One of the best persons to front a band these days for sure and he and the rest of the band have fun and they are grateful to both Sabaton and the audience for playing this festival. Not many bands in the hard rock/heavy metal family can put up the energy that Justin Hawkins shows on stage for song after song. I wonder sometimes how the hell it is possible to keep it up for 90 minutes.

Justin manage and it definitely infects the audience who becomes “friends of Darkness” before it’s over. And before it’s over Dan Hawkins changed his guitar 16 (sixteen) times. Before every song he gets a new guitar and I’m thinking that if I ever going to be a guitar-technician (which will never happened) I don’t take the job with The Darkness if it became free. But I can say directly that If I got a chance to see the Darkness live again I would not hesitate for even one second. They took me by surprise during their 90 minutes on the “Heroes-stage” in Falun.

To sum it up Justin Hawkins is a great frontman, Dan Hawkins standing steady on his brothers side playing the guitar with no doubts, Frankie Poullain stands at the left on the stage looking like a chicken in his yellow suit and behind the drums Rufus Tiger Taylor banging the shit out of his drums. Four guys who had a good time in Sweden this friday night.

Who: The Darkness
Where: Sabaton Open Air, Falun
When: 17/8-18
Stand out track: Love Is Only A Feeling
Rate: 7/10
