The Five Stormtroopers reviewing Sabaton – The War to End All Wars: Johan Hagberg
8/10
It’s time once again for Falun’s finest to return on record. Once again they focus on the first world war as well as they did on their last album “The Great War”. I’ve always been a fan of Sabaton and for me the new album “War to End All Wars” is not a dissapointment, instead it’s growing on me for every listening and I discover new favourite parts every time I listen to it. Jocke have a very special voice and for me he have become the soul of Sabaton, there is no way that any other singer can replace him but to be honest that will not happen. Together with Pär Sundström he is the one who will steer this ship in the future as well.
For me “Coat Of Arms” is the best album with Sabaton and they were almost there with “The Last Stand”, but when they released “The Great War” it was a little bit off a dissapointment if I compare it with “The Last Stand” and my expectations on “The War to End All Wars” was not high. I changed opinion a little bit when they released “Christmas Truce” because it was a little bit different for Sabaton. Then they released “Soldier Of Heaven” and I was back on square one again. When the album hit my inbox I was talking to Anton (one of Stargazeds writers) and we decided to do more than one review of the album. I started to listen and my expectations were very low at this point.
But can you guess, they win once more time. Sabaton is a band that sounds very much the same as they did on their previous albums but this time they got great songs again. It’s not a new “The Last Stand” and it’s definitely not a new “Coat Of Arms” but Sabaton delivers 2022 as well and they will get a massive success once again. And this time they got the songs that deserves that success. The opening track “Sarajevo” sets the tone and as early as song number two “Stormtroopers” they blow the rest of the album to pieces, stand out track is what we call it here on Stargazed Magazine. “Dreadnought”, “The Unkillable Soldier”, “Christmas Truce” and “The Valley Of Death” is definitely live favourites in the future and when the key increase show up in “”Lady Of The Dark” I wonder why they didn’t participate in this years selection to the Eurovision Song Contest. All in all this is a very good album from Sabaton and if we look around the world right now Sabaton can continue to write albums about war because the wars will never end.
