Visions of Morpheus – Lost Within

9/10

I love Canada, man! I mean what’s not to love about a country that has brought us bands/artists like Annihilator, Rush, Mystery, Bryan Adams, Harem Scarem, Triumph and Terrance and Philip? And the following quote from the band certainly helps to fuel the fire: “Drawing inspiration from the Greek God of Dreams, Morpheus, Visions of Morpheus delves deep into the world of dreams and the subconscious. Our sound, marked by powerful riffs, strong drumming, and emotional vocals, takes listeners on a journey through the intricate landscape of the mind. Each song is more than just a track – it’s a dive into the unseen world within us. Our aim with our music is to create a bridge, connecting conscious thoughts with underlying emotions and unspoken desires. Much like the ancient deity we take our name from, we excel at creating immersive musical landscapes that leave a lasting impact.”

Ok, that kind of sounds like all sorts of pretentious. But you know what? These guys pulls it off and then some and considering that this is their debut album makes it all the more impressive. The closest that I can come when compairing them to other bands would be like a mix between Shadow Gallery, Symphony X and Royal Hunt as their lead vocalist and band leader, Jeff Pearson sounds like an incredibly versatile DC Cooper from Royal Hunt. Not only that but the vocal melodies on display here are amazing.

This is Classic Progressive Metal (CPR) at its finest and if you’re a fan of any of the bands listed above, this is an album for you, I can almost guarantee it. The vocal department is not the only thing that makes an impression on “Lost Within”, no siree! These guys knows their s**t, let me tell you and you can hear influences from both Dream Theater and Symphony X sprinkled all over the album with the tempo’s ranging from lightning fast to something that can be slow and doomy and played by someone who knows to slow down and build upon the dynamics created. A good example would be the title track, heavy as all hell, a crap ton of minor chords, skillfully backed up by a groovy drummer and a great bassplayer as well.

Dear reader, if this sounds like your idea of awesome, do not hesitate a second when pressing that buy button. You are doing “Future-You” one hell of a favour by doing this right here and right now, ok? Not only that, you are doing both “Future-You” and Visions of Morpheus a solid one as one purchased digital album/cd is thousands upon thousands of streams. You are all worth it, “The-Now-You”, “Future-You” and the band of course. This is Progressive Power Metal gem and one that will stand the test of time, methinks…
