Windom End – Perspective Views
Don’t get me wrong as I’m not complaining but what the frack is it about Sweden and progressive rock/metal? Only a few weeks ago Paralydium released their fantastic debut and here we have another newcomer that seemingly comes from nowhere and delivers one hell of an album. Windom End is not as heavy as their collegues though but should appeal to both metalheads and fans of neoprog as the production is big, bombastic and bold.
This marvellous music is performed by virtuosos at the top of their game so you can expect blistering solos, incredible drumming from the phenomenal Tobias Lundgren (ex-Moon Safari) and lush, beautiful vocal harmonies in droves. There is not one single weak song on this album and it feels so extremely well constructed. It is as if the whole piece is a puzzlebox where every single part has its place without being forced to fit. It simply flows, if you follow my drift…
Really, I could go on for hours about single parts of songs so I won´t go there as you´d probably would need eyedrops, an caffeine IV hooked up and the patience of an angel to get through that so just take my word for it instead: you need this album in your life. Now.
If you are a fan of prog metal but nurture a curiosity about that weird scene called neoprogressive rock you could not find a better place to start. Here you have a veritable smorgasboard of syncopated parts, skillfully incorporated recurring themes, loads of rhythm changes and music that dares to be dynamic. And if you´re a fan of IQ, Arena, Pendragon and Jadis you should go to Windom Ends bandcamp and order yourself a piece of aural goodness pronto. Simple as that.
And I must recommend the band on their brilliant lyrics as well. Hardhitting, well written and poetic all at the same time. As I´m typing this I´m awash that warm, almost bubbling feeling you get once you discover something new and amazing. As this is the bands very first record I wonder just how far they can go, which highs they can reach in the coming few years. This is only the beginning, heed my words.
This is only the beginning.
