Live review – Sabaton Open Air 2019: Nerved
Alternative metal band Nerved from Stockholm (and Dalecarlia) delivers a well played and excellent executed show. With atmospheric songs and brutally heavy riffs they light up the cold, dark night skyes over Falun.
Petra Kvännä’s voice is one of the most powerfull in the metal genre today and is a perfect match with the heavy sound Nerved displays.
But it starts a bit cautious and the opening “Bitch” and “Freedom” feels a bit slow and doesnt take off like they should. In “Everlasting”, a beautiful power ballad the band starts to feel a bit more comfortable and following “Leave It All Behind” is when they first show us glimpses of the immense experience Nerved possess.
It is in the moving, powerful slow songs Nerved and Petra in particular got their aces up their sleeves. In “I Love You”, a joint cooperation with Rädda Barnen (a Swedish non profit organisation who fights for childrens rights around the world) her voice soars high above the festival grounds and gives everyone in hearing distance chills all over! “Silence” is tonights culmination and opposite to the tracks name, it is anything but. Sharp riffs, crushing sound and screams to wake the dead, “Silence” shows of the whole repertoire and competence of Nerved. And of course we get their hit single and Leila K-cover “Electric” as the finale.
All in all, Nerved delivers a stabile and capable set but somethings missing. I had quite high hopes on this show but it never delivered on my expectations. Maybe it was the silence between the songs and long intros to almost all of them which dragged the tempo down, but I cant shake the feeling that this could be a class one metal act.
